Trust me, this one is going to be a basketball bonanza, or a cure for insomnia -- depends on how you look at it, really. We’ve got the San Antonio Spurs up against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Now, the Spurs haven’t been having the best time this season as they’ve won about as often as an armadillo wins a footrace against a hare. They’re down at 26 – 35 for the regular season. But you’ve got to keep an eye out for the likes of Victor Wembanyama, who’s having an impressive season with an average score of 24.3 points per game and 11.0 rebounds per game. De'Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle shouldn’t also be discounted.
Over on the Timberwolves’ side, let’s just say they’re having a better season. With a 36-29 record, they’ve got one foot in the winner’s lounge. It doesn’t hurt that they have Anthony Edwards, who’s been lighting it up like New Year’s Eve fireworks, averaging a spectacular 30.0 points per game, and 7.4 rebounds per game during the last month. And Julius Randle and Naz Reid haven’t been exactly dozing off on the court either.
The head-to-heads have made this matchup a bit of a seesaw with each team beating the other in their own hunting grounds. How very cordial of them!
So, where does that leave us on the prediction? My tea leaves are telling me we're in for a Minnesota win, but it could be closer than the bookmakers might think. If the Spurs can learn to actually hit a shot they might even make the Timberwolves sweat a bit.
Albert’s Prediction: Minnesota Timberwolves by 7.
