Ah, the smell of rubber and sweat, a classic scent of an NBA game, as we head into yet another clash of titans. This time, the Brooklyn Nets and the Charlotte Hornets, both not exactly contenders for the prom king of the league. But hey a game's a game, right?
The Nets led by the impressive Cam Thomas, boasting a season average of 24.2 points a game. Not just a pretty face folks, he's ably assisted by his sidekick, Cameron Johnson, who's been putting up decent numbers. Let's take a moment to appreciate Nic Claxton's work on the boards, an impressive last month rebounding average of 7.2 per game.
Now don’t you dare snooze on the Hornets, folks. Miles "Flight" Bridges isn't about to roll over. He's posting an admirable 21.9 points per game last month. And hey, that kid LaMelo Ball is proving to be a showstopper with his overall season average of 26.2 points a game. Let’s not forget about Mark Williams bringing the rain with 14.0 points and 10 rebounds per game last month. Looks like the Hornets nest isn’t empty.
Looking back at the past matchups and the recent track records, the Nets have the upper hand here. The record screams louder than a banshee at a boy band concert. The Nets have won 3 of the last 5 meetings and pretending that doesn't matter would be like pretending the halftime hotdog didn't give me heartburn.
Now this isn't Shakespeare folks, but in the tragic drama that is the regular season, our protagonist, the Brooklyn Nets, have been performing slightly less disastrously than the Hornets. They’re sitting at 21-41 versus the Hornets' sob-worthy 14-47.
Well, bring out the calculators and dust off your abacuses, because I'm about to lay down some numbers. Position wise, the Nets are 11th in the Eastern Conference while the Hornets have made the 14th spot their home away from home. Even my mother-in-law can see how this is going to play out.
I’d also say the recent results speak volumes - more specifically they are screaming "Nets". Both teams have been dealt a rough hand recently, but between two down-on-their-luck squads, the Nets seem to have the upper hand.
So put down your hotdogs and hold onto your foam fingers, because I've made my decision.
