Oh, here we are with the classic showdown between the Toronto Blue Jays sauntering into Fenway Park to take on the beloved Boston Red Sox. Crack open a can of beans, folks, this should be a humdinger.
Now, the pitching matchup screams a pitcher's duel. We have Canadian import Jose Berrios who has been holding down the fort with a 3.51 ERA and shaking batters to their knees with 7.9 K/9 rate for the Blue Jays. On the other side, we have Boston's own start-up, Brayan Bello, whose still been managing to hold on despite a higher WHIP than Berrios, amassing a 3.43 ERA and 7.3 K/9 rate.
The Blue Jays certainly are not being left behind when it comes to hitting. We've got Ernie Clement smacking balls out of the park with a .374 average, Alejandro Kirk keeping pitchers guessing with a .356 average, and Bo clinging on with a .276 average, as well as George Springer contributing with a .284 average.
However, Boston's batters are not that far behind either. Ceddanne Rafaela is the true standout here having a .301 average along with 6 cannon shots. Also Abraham Toro and Trevor Story have been contributing significantly maintaining a .299 and .253 averages respectively.
What's interesting is that they have danced off fairly evenly in the past, swinging wins back and forth. However, the fair Canadians lodged more wins in the recent dance-offs. These games have been strong reminders that geography doesn't decide a good baseball match.
However, Red Sox's recent form reads like a grocery list that's forgotten to include winning. On the contrary, with a winning record, those Blue Jays are strutting like a peacock in mating season.
Ah, the delights of Fenway. Nothing says home field advantage like playing somewhere that caters more to batters and boy, does Fenway love a good hitter. Whether that'll be enough of a help to Boston with Toronto's hitters firing on all cylinders, we're about to find out.
Taking all this stuff into account, I'm placing my chips on Toronto, and before you ask, no, not because I got free poutine there once.
