So, let's talk turkey here. We've got the New York Mets set to take the field with the Pittsburgh Pirates at the beloved PNC Park. Now, I don't want to come down harsh on the Pirates but those regular season records speak for themselves - Mets sitting pretty at 48 wins and 34 losses; Pirates, well they're showing up with 32 wins and a whopping 50 losses.
Playing in their own back yard isn't going to make a world of difference for the Pirates either, PNC Park is as familiar a battlefield for both sides. Also, their starting pitcher, Mitch Keller is trucking a slightly heavier ERA than Mets' David Peterson this season, clocking in at 4.08 versus Peterson's 3.24.
Swinging over to individual performances, the Mets have some potent batters in their lineup. Mr. Brandon Nimmo catching eyes with a .306 average, Pete Alonso tagging along with some good numbers too. Pirates aren’t bereft of talent now with Bryan Reynolds batting a .292 average but let's be candid, they're not exactly changing the game here.
Having a look back at some of their past meetings, these two teams have dished out pretty even performances. Interesting to see Pittsburgh even managed to shush the Mets on their own turf back in May. But Mets do have a slight edge with recent victories.
Contemplating all these nuggets of information, I'd say the scales are tipping decidedly in the Mets' favor here. So, with no further delay, let's get to the money shot.
