I'll tell you, baseball discussions never cease to amuse my twisted sense of humor. Let's talk about our upcoming game, the Washington Nationals at the San Diego Padres. Now, let me give you my two cents on the matter.
The game's happening at Petco Park which has a bit of a reputation for supporting the pitchers more than the batters. So, keep an eye out for some top-shelf pitches folks!
And speaking of pitchers, the Nationals are sending over MacKenzie Gore. Not too shabby right? I mean, a 3.24 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and impressive strikeouts per nine innings. On the other hand, the Padres are fielding Nick Pivetta, and he's no slouch either. This season, he's got a 3.67 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, not far off from his counterpart.
But, moving onto the batters. If you're a fan of the Nationals and your batting order consists of Luis Garcia, Jacob Young, and James Wood, you might actually have something to cheer about. Contrastingly, if you're rooting for the Padres, you're relying heavily on Manny Machado , Xander Bogaerts and Gavin Sheets to carry the day.
Looking at past encounters, seems like it's either a pitcher's duel or a run-feast with these two. But most recently, the Padres have had the upper edge. And I know, I know, Nationals fans will be quick to remind me about the 10-6 victory, but hand on heart, let's remember who's been consistently performing this regular season. A hint: it's not the team with only 33 wins.
Now, if we're looking at recent form, it's interesting. Nationals have had quite the roller-coaster ride recently, losing more than they've won, it seems. Whereas the Padres, although they experienced a hiccup against the Nationals recently, their performances against the Royals ought to restore some faith.
In summary, it seems this game is destined to have a slight bias towards the San Diego Padres. So, here goes.
