St. Louis Cardinals by 2Who's up for another riveting round of bird-on-cog combat? Of course, I'm talking about the Cardinals and Guardians locking beak and gear once more on the deceptively peaceful turf of Progressive Field.
Now, let me tell ya. The Redbirds wander into the Cuyahoga Valley bearing a pocket full of archangels. The man of the match may well be Sonny Gray, strolling onto the mound with a rather dapper ERA of 3.77, and whipping up a storm with 9.7 K/9 in 15 appearances this regular season.
His counterpart, the not-so-guarded Luis Ortiz, marches on with a more meager 4.44 ERA and a 10.4 K/9 in 15 appearances this season. So, if you bet on pitchers, the scales might just tip towards the Cardinal folks.
But boys and girls, let me tell ya -- don't count the Guardians out just yet. Tempered steel in the names of Jose Ramirez and Steven Kwan look ready to pound out some serious numbers. Of course, we'd do well to recall the Cardinals' secret weapon trio, Alec Burleson, Yohel Pozo, and Nolan Gorman. Contreras isn't to be scoffed at either.
Now, old feuds die hard, as they say, and this one here is no exception. They've been swapping victories like baseball cards in the past few matchups. Our Guardians put up a solid fight in their last turf war, eking out a win. And the Redbirds have been fluttering pretty heartily this season, too, beating the Guardians in the win-loss stat. Toss in some recent battles and both teams are nearly at a stalemate.
Anyhoo, it's time to put my money where my mouth is... or rather, where yours should be!
