Ladies and gentlemen, as we're looking at the up-and-coming face-off between the Colorado Rockies and the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park, quite honestly, the Braves should be mopping the floor with the Rockies, if we were to trust the cold, hard statistics. But, then again, this is baseball, not mathematics.
The Braves have Bryce Elder stepping up the mound who's had a decent run this season, with an ERA of 4.10 and a WHIP of 1.17, he should be quite the formidable wall, especially when compared to Colorado's German Marquez who's having, well, let’s call it 'an interesting season' as he struggles with an ERA of 7.16 and a WHIP of 1.72. No judgment, Marquez. We have good days and not-so-good days.
Taking a peak at the player lineup, the Braves have some real heavy hitters, both literally and figuratively. Ronald Acuna Jr., with his .353 batting average, seems to have confused baseball for golf. Too easy, isn’t it Acuna? Austin Riley and Matt Olson are following right behind, packing some serious punches.
Our Rockies pals are not too far behind with Tyler Freeman leading the charge, but it seems like they'll need to tighten up their laces and hope for a fair wind to keep up. Freeman, keep swinging that bat, buddy.
In all fairness, the Rockies have given the Braves a run for their money in some previous matchups but taking the ballpark into consideration, the Braves could have a batting advantage here. And while the Rockies' recent victory over San Francisco is commendable, it might be a bit hasty to assume they’re on a winning streak.
Don't bet the house on it, but looking at their regular-season records, the Braves have just a smidgen of a better hand here. They've managed a neat 29-38 as compared to Rockies' dismal 13-55. I mean, commiserations but that's the way the cookie crumbles.
So, drumroll, please. Here's Albert’s Prediction: Atlanta Braves by 3. Sorry, Rockies. Better luck next game.
