We've got the Miami Marlins taking on the Chicago White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field. The Marlins may be favored but don't start counting your cash just yet. Their starting pitcher, Edward Cabrera, seems to be having a season to forget with his 6.54 ERA. I haven't seen numbers that high since I last checked my cholesterol. On the other side, the White Sox have Shane Smith, who's holding a handsome 2.31 ERA.
Now let's talk about some of these guys swinging the bat, shall we? From the Marlins, we've got Dane Myers and Kyle Stowers carrying some impressive numbers. In particular, Myers has a commendable .339 batting average along with 12 RBIs and 3 home runs. On the contrary, Matt Mervis is hitting like he's got a noodle for a bat with an average of .162.
Over on the Sox, the situation ain't that rosy. Luis Robert Jr., despite his wobbly .194 average, has spirited away 14 bases, the cheeky rascal. But the team as a whole could use a visit from the batting fairy. Edgar Quero and Lenyn Sosa are holding things together, but the numbers certainly aren't enough to throw a party over.
Now let’s take a stroll down memory lane to their past encounters. It's been a fairly even contest with both the Marlins and White Sox having their moments in the sun.
But as they say, what have you done for me lately? The Marlins are certainly struggling this season with a 14-22 record, while the Sox are not faring much better at 10-28. And don't even get me started on those recent results. Both teams are on the struggle bus, but at least the Sox managed to beat the Marlins in their last meeting.
From where I'm sitting, it seems like the Marlins may be headed for a Chicago-style meltdown.
Albert’s Prediction: Chicago White Sox by 2
