Ah, the soothing sounds of baseball are upon us. We've got an intriguing American League showdown between the Baltimore Orioles and the Minnesota Twins coming up.
Firstly, who doesn't love the beautiful confines of Target Field in Minneapolis? It's a ballpark that doesn't necessarily favor the hitters, nor the pitchers, makes for a balanced game indeed.
Look at our starting pitcher matchup. We’ve got Dean Kremer of Orioles, who's been pretty generous allowing runs this season, reflected in his ERA of 6.03, on sale for seven straight appearances. In contrast, Minnesota's Bailey Ober has shown considerably better form with a 3.84 ERA in his seven games. Surely a considerable advantage for the home team.
Now let’s bring in the big hitters. For the Orioles, keep an eye on Ryan O'Hearn, who's having a fantastic season with a .314 batting average, 14 RBIs, and 7 home runs. Similarly, don't discount Ramon Laureano and Cedric Mullins even if they aren't replicating O’Hearn's magic.
Coming to the Twins, we've got Harrison Bader and Byron Buxton both boasting averages close to .300 alongside a respectable collection of RBIs. Buxton also leads with 22 RBIs and 8 home runs this season - someone the O’s will be sure to keep under close watch.
If we look at the historical encounters between these two teams, the Twins appear to hold a slight edge. They've been victorious in three out of the last five match-ups. Additionally, their regular season records, despite not being impressive for either team, still has the Twins leading by a hair's breadth.
Lastly, consider the recent results. Here again, the Twins have managed to secure something of an upper hand with their good form against the O’s and some success in Boston, while the Orioles' form leaves a bit to be desired.
All this taken into account, here’s my prediction:
