Los Angeles Dodgers by 2
*RIP hypothetical chicken
Gather round, folks—oh wait, my bad, you’re not my colleagues at the local watering hole. Allow me to put on my professional hat here, and let’s dive into this heated baseball matchup between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks.
The action's happening at Chase Field in sunny Phoenix, AZ, where let's just say the batters feel slightly more welcomed than the pitchers. And that’s putting it mildly.
Our boys, Dustin May for the Dodgers and Corbin Burnes for the Diamondbacks, will be on the mound trying to keep runs to a minimum. And let’s just say, both pitchers are performing a symphony of mediocrity this season. You've got May with his 4.46 ERA and 1.27 WHIP. And on the other hand, Burnes is coming in hot (read ‘average’) with a 3.63 ERA and 1.40 WHIP. They've both been showing off their arms with 7.8 K/9 this season, so that should bode well for some good ol' baseball action.
You might wanna keep an eye out on a few people here. For the Dodgers, we've got Freddie Freeman, who is hotter than a habanero in August with a .382 batting average, 26 RBIs and 6 home runs this season. Then there's Miguel Rojas and Andy Pages both hitting above .340, and, last but not least, Shohei Ohtani who’s having a decent run with a .291 batting average and 15 RBIs.
On the Diamondbacks' side, Geraldo Perdomo is doing a bit of damage with a .296 batting average. Let's not forget Josh Naylor and Corbin Carroll both have over 19 RBIs this season. And then, there's Eugenio Suarez trying to crawl out from the bottom of his slump.
The previous matchups between these two teams have been a mixed bag. Dodgers took home the last victory with a high score, but just a day before, the Diamondbacks had stolen the show. It’s been a constant game of tug of war between these two teams historically.
Based simply on the regular season records, you'd think that Dodgers, with their 25 wins versus Arizona's 20, would be laughing all the way to the game, but they've had a hiccup or two in their recent games. The Diamondbacks haven't exactly been lighting the world on fire either with their recent performance.
So, after considering all the evidence, doing the math, and sacrificing a chicken* (I'm joking! No chickens were harmed in the making of this prediction), here's my forecast:
