Oh boy, you might want to layer up, because we're heading to Coors Field in Denver, boys and girls! And let's not forget that Coors Field is notoriously nice to batters, much to the chagrin of your hard-working pitchers. I'm looking at you Kyle Freeland and Freddy Peralta.
Speaking of the boys on the mound, this promises to be an interesting matchup. Milwaukee Brewers' Freddy Peralta is hoping to continue his hot streak this season with an amazing 2.08 ERA, but he had a run-in with a vending machine…or maybe that was last season’s playoffs, I forget. The point is, things didn't go too smoothly.
Contrasting Freddy, we have the Rockies' Kyle Freeland, who also enters this game with a respectable 2.21 ERA this season. That's a big step up from last year’s numbers, which looked a bit like my old golf score. High is bad, right?
On the batting side, Milwaukee’s brimming with confidence thanks to the likes of Sal Frelick, Brice Turang, and Jackson Chourio. All sporting solid averages and some hefty RBI counts. These boys came to swing.
Over on the Rockies' turf, we have Kyle Farmer, Nick Martini, and Hunter Goodman not to be outdone. Even though Farmer’s average is threatening to clinch the 0.400, Goodman seems to be struck by a bit of the Home Run bug, which could see him take advantage of Coors' batter-affection moving forward.
In the big picture, the Brewers' recent 5-5 stint outshadows the Rockies' 2-7 performance. The ghosts of battles past between the two during 2024 have the Rockies with a slight edge. However, we all remember what a dumpster fire 2020 was, am I right?
Considering recent outings, Brewers took a beating at the hands of Cincinnati but managed to pull off a few Duran Duran moments; Notorious indeed. The Rockies seem to be playing peek-a-boo with the win column, showing a bit of Rhythm but not exactly Dancing on the ceiling. Apologies, I sometimes mix up my 80s bands.
After summing all of this up, considering all past performances, with a tiny pinch of personal bias, and some arbitrary algorithm I came up with during last night’s sleep…
