My Prediction
Baltimore Orioles by 2Ah, the sweet sound of gloves popping and bats cracking, it's time for another beautiful day of baseball. We've got the Baltimore Orioles squaring off against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Now, folks who follow the Baltimore Orioles already know about Charlie Morton and his, uh... less than stellar 10.00 ERA this season. Let's hope he's been drinking his do-better-juice because those numbers are hard to look at.
For the home team, we have Merrill Kelly on the mound. Kelly has a similar story to Morton this year with a choking 10.84 ERA. The man needs more strikeouts. Maybe he and Morton should start a support group, "Pitchers With Inflated ERAs Anonymous", they can make amends to the batters they've hurt.
Top players for Baltimore will be Tyler O'Neill, Ryan Mountcastle, and Cedric Mullins, who elect to hit the baseball, a tactic that seems to work for them. For Arizona, we have Alek Thomas, Pavin Smith, and Eugenio Suarez. Suarez, with a batting average that looks like my high school GPA, is banking on those home runs to pull him through. Bold strategy, Suarez.
Looking back at the past matchups, the Orioles seem to have the edge, winning 3 out of their 5 most recent games against the Diamondbacks. It's not a commanding lead, but then again, neither team has a commanding regular season record. The Orioles with their sad 4-6 and the Diamondbacks doing slightly less worse with 5-5.
The recent results play in the Orioles' favor though. They seem to have found a winning groove after their victory against Arizona. Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks have turned losing into an art form with a three-game losing streak.
So, who will win in this epic battle between mediocrity and slight underachievement? Considering all the facts, I'll lay down my prediction.
