All eyes are on our match today, where the Los Angeles Dodgers are taking a scenic trip to square off against the Washington Nationals at the distinctly average Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. Given the park's neutrality, it really puts the skills, or lack of, on display. No hiding behind favorable conditions here!
In the player scrum, the Dodgers' dynamite duo, Will Smith, batting presently at 0.423, and the unmistakable Mookie Betts, with a commendable average of 0.313, are making hitters everywhere a touch green with envy. Their fellow Dodger, Tommy Edman, is definitely up to something with those 5 home runs too. Teoscar Hernandez, we see you and those 13 RBIs!
For the Nationals, we've got Alex Call hitting like his life depends on it with a .545 batting average. Amed Rosario and Nathaniel Lowe are proving they can also deliver some action, though numbers tell us they like to play hard to get with averages of 0.417 and 0.286 respectively. CJ Abrams must be part magpie, nabbing 2 stolen bases along the way.
Turning our attention to the men huffing and puffing on the mound, the Dodgers have Dustin May, managing to keep an unblemished ERA this season in his lone appearance so far. The Nats have the sturdy MacKenzie Gore, with 14.7 strikeouts-per-nine-innings this season. Although, last season, he did rank a touch higher in the 4.096 ERA club.
Peering back into the rearview mirror, we can see that the Dodgers have traditionally had the Nationals' number. As for their recent form, the Dodgers are keeping their foot on the gas pedal with a solid 9-2 record. The Nats, however, have hit a few speed bumps along their journey, resulting in an uninspiring 3-6 record.
So, what's the big prediction? Will the Dodgers keep doing their best steamroller impression or will the Nationals find their proverbial "spinach" and become the underdog heroes? After all this back and forth and a coin toss that took a little too long, I think this one is headed in one direction:
