Seattle Mariners by 2Let's talk about this thrilling matchup at T-Mobile Park, snug in the evergreen Seattle, where the climate seems to favor pitchers more than batters. The scenery's great, and the stats are interesting. Get out your calculators, kiddos, it's gonna be a wild ride!
On the hill for the Astros is Hayden Wesneski. The youngin' displayed a shaky start to the season, boasting a 5.40 ERA in his first appearance. Somewhat of a downgrade from last year's performance of a somewhat acceptable 4.097 ERA. Hayden will need his best stuff against the Seahawks. Oops, did I say Seahawks? I meant Mariners. My bad.
Speaking of pitchers, allow me to introduce Logan Gilbert, the Seattle Mariners' secret weapon. Logan's having a fantastic start to his season, sporting a 3.00 ERA. Keeping that number beneath Hayden's ERA is akin to keeping your little brother away from your Halloween candy – every run counts, and Logan is putting them in the bank.
Can we talk about how exciting Jose Altuve is? The man himself is still in a league of his own. With an admirable .359 BA and some jazzy footwork shown with 1 stolen base, Altuve is a charging bull in the game and when backed by the likes of Brendan Rodgers and Jeremy Pena, who've also shown some batting prowess, Summer promises to be interesting for the Astros.
But don't dismiss Seattle Mariners here. Their stature in games has been elevated with standout performances by Jorge Polanco and Dylan Moore, both carrying admirable BAs and some powerful swings with a handful of home runs. Is it just me or does the ball fly a bit more in Seattle?
However, the scales tilt slightly towards the Astros, given the past face-offs. Or do they? The Mariners seem to be carrying the recent upper hand - so much for history and stats.
Despite their choppy start to the season, the home-field advantage and the recent historical upper hand give the Mariners a narrow edge. It's likely going to be a very close one, perhaps as close as my ex-wife's grip on our shared assets. Conversely, since recent history suggests otherwise and to the chagrin of my still pounding heart, save my reputation, my prediction leans towards the Mariners.
