As we gaze into our tennis crystal ball, we find ourselves head-to-head with this quarterfinal clash between our top seed, Jessica Pegula, and the 4th seed, Emma Navarro. The rays from that crystal ball seem to favor Pegula, and why shouldn't they? She has the historic upper-hand, creating quite the obstacle for Navarro, with a record of two straight victories that have been etched into the books just last spring.
Navarro surely can't be discounted though, having recently upset a big name, Osaka, without dropping a set no less. However, for every great game Navarro's played, a mirror image of a loss seems to haunt her. It’s a rollercoaster that may thrill some, but if you're looking for consistency, it's the tennis version of jumping out of a plane without a parachute.
On the other side of the court, we've got Pegula, who has also had her share of ups and downs, yet managed to secure most of her recent matches. She could certainly do with less of those nail-biting three-setter games, but then again, what's sports without a bit of drama?
With all this bantering, what we’re essentially saying is that Navarro, our dear 4th seed, will need more than just luck to topple top-seeded Pegula off her tennis throne. Favors from the tennis gods, perhaps, or maybe a sudden outbreak of tennis elbow. Too harsh? Love me or hate me, those are the facts, ladies and gentlemen.
Albert's Prediction: Pegula in 2 sets.
