Diving right into this one, Ekaterina Alexandrova and Iga Swiatek are primed for a punch-up in the quarterfinals of the Bad Homburg Open. Historically, it's been a bit of a back and forth between the two, with Ekaterina snatching a couple of wins off of Iga. But you know what they say about the past – it's called "past" for a reason.
Now, there's no denying Swiatek has been swinging a mean racket these days, putting Azarenka, Svitolina, Rybakina and Cristian to bed in quick succession. Not to throw shade, but it's a little hard to ignore that Alexandrova had to dig deep for her wins against Sakkari and Kudermetova, requiring three sets in each match. A win's a win, but I for one wouldn't want to roll those dice too often.
Between you and me, there's a reason Swiatek is the fourth seed and Alexandrova's sitting back at eighth. Rankings aren't everything, but they're certainly not nothing. Swiatek should be prepared for Alexandrova to bring her A-game, but as they say in the classics, love all and play.
Albert's Prediction: Swiatek in 3 sets.
