My Prediction
Bencic in straight sets.While the rankings might say one thing, this game of tennis does have an uncanny habit of surprising us every now and then, doesn't it? Not today, however. Not with Beatriz Haddad Maia and Belinda Bencic. Bencic may be unseeded, but let's not forget that she's had the upper hand in past encounters. The head-to-head record favors her two-love, a fact which I'm confident Maia has been losing sleep over.
Maia, the 16th seed, carries recent performances that frankly have been less than inspiring. It's been a bit of a rollercoaster, and not the fun kind. More drops than rises, and unfortunately for her, no loop-de-loops in sight. Bencic, on the other hand, she seems to be over the hill that was the March slump. Her performance has been ascending and if my crystal ball isn't playing tricks on me, it shows no signs of stopping.
And ladies and gentlemen, don't forget that a confident Bencic is a frightening Bencic. With recent wins giving her a boost, she steps onto the clay court with dominance, basking in the shadow of previous victories against Maia.
Now, Maia is a fighter, there's no doubting that. But in the face of an informed Bencic? It's almost cruel. I could almost see Bencic notching another feather in her cap.
So, in conclusion, you ask? Well, as sure as the bounce of a tennis ball, Bencic has got this matchup in her pocket. Hold on to your hats, tennis fans. We are in for a real display of skilful tennis.
