Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in 3 sets.Ladies and Gents, we have Jessica Bouzas Maneiro and Magdalena Frech facing off in the round of 64 at the Mutua Madrid Open. Interesting match up we've got, let me tell you. Spanish native Maneiro has the home advantage and has been in good form lately, winning three out of her last five matches. Our friend Frech on the other hand, a 27th seed from Poland, seems to have hit a series of speed bumps, losing four out of her last five. Tennis can be a cruel mistress.
Now, you might think seeds are a good judge of character, but they are as reliable as a chocolate teapot. They're both grinders, but Maneiro has shown she can chuck in some cheeky surprises. Frech, meanwhile, will be trying to recall the days when she had Maneiro in fits, like that Monday on August, 2024 where she won 2-love.
Something tells me though that this isn't going to be a walk in the park for Frech. Maneiro, completely unseeded, probably has a chip on her shoulder about being labelled an underdog when she pretty much owns the track. Poker face and all, she's more likely to have some aces up her sleeve.
So take it from me, grab your popcorn because we might be in for a plot twist. Oh, did I mention? Frech hasn't really been knocking it out of the park lately. If it were up to me, I'd say we're heading for a three-setter.
