Navarro in 3 sets.Well, tennis aficionados, we have an interesting matchup unfolding here in the Round of 64 of the Mutua Madrid Open, with Eleventh seed Emma Navarro pitted against the unsalted wild card, Maya Joint.
Navarro, the favorite of the betting houses, is coming off a somewhat checkered trend, her mixed bag of victories and losses signaling either instability or the persistence to fight back after a set back. Her defeat at the hands of Ostapenko J. doesn't seem to be sitting so well though, and she's no doubt itching to regain her grandeur in the court.
On the other side of the net, we have Joint, whose recent victories probably taste sweeter given her earlier defeat to Masarova R.. Maya clearly demonstrated some apt resilience in nabbing wins against Errani S.. Playing the role of the underdog here, she'll be looking to dish out some surprises and take a swing not just at the ball but at the status quo.
Tournament seeding and past performances aside, one must however when it comes to tennis, always account for the flowing caprices of the day. You could be swinging like Serena in one match, then double-faulting like some Sunday park amateur in the next.
Anyway, winning or losing, that racket sure isn't going to swing itself, so eventually these two have got to stop dancing around each other and start landing some sets.
