St. John's Red Storm by 3
Today we get to witness the sparks fly as the St. John's Red Storm, sitting pretty at #6, storms into the court against the #20 ranked Marquette Golden Eagles. Quite a David vs Goliath scene if you ask me, but we all know how that story ended, don't we?
An ENCOUNTER of this caliber warrants a look at the past, and boy does the past yell out a loud message - it's anybody's game! Sure, the Red Storm has won once in the recent past, but we all remember the Golden Eagles claiming victory three times before that. Who's to say they won't repeat that feat?
Let's turn our attention to the heavy lifters of both these power-packed teams. For St. John's, Kadary Richmond and RJ Luis have been making waves. Richmond has been a solid performer, averaging 15.4 points last month. Luis, on the other hand, is on fire with an average of 18.9 points per game! For Marquette, Kam Jones is carrying the team on his shoulders with 17 points per game last month, with the equally competent David Joplin providing solid support.
As far as recent performance is concerned, both teams seem to be on a roll. Red Storm certainly is at their A-game, having recently sent Seton Hall Pirates packing with a 71-61 victory. But the Golden Eagles can't be written off either. Sure, their recent 66-72 loss to Connecticut Huskies was a slight dip, but their impressive victory over Providence Friars cannot be ignored.
Based on the AP ranking, the Red Storm has a whip hand, standing tall at #6 compared to Marquette's #20. But as I always say, and I would like to note that I have been right quite a few times, the rankings are just numbers. The real magic unfolds on the court!
To cut to the chase, my hunch tells me we are in for an adrenaline-filled showdown. After much hemming and hawing, taking a long, hard look at these gladiators and their battle history, I would have to say that this could turn out to be a very excitingly close game.
