In our upcoming encounter, we have the Colorado Rockies squaring off against the Atlanta Braves on the Braves' home turf, the charming Truist Park, located in the bosom of Atlanta, GA. Now, for folks who hold their breaths between the ballpark hot dogs, this is a pretty neutral park. Neither a batman's paradise nor a pitcher's haven. Just good, old middle-of-the-road baseball.
The starting pitcher for the Rockies today is Austin Gomber. Now, Gomber did not exactly etch his name in the annals of baseball history last season with an ERA of 4.716, but hey, it's a new day. As they say, the sun will come out... oh, wait, it already is, never mind. On the other side of the mound, we have Braves' very own, Grant Holmes. Not exactly the sharpest tool in the shed either, with a fairly pedestrian show this season, sporting a 4.23 ERA. But remember folks, every once in a while, even a blind squirrel finds a nut.
The top players from the Rockies are cohorts Tyler Freeman, Hunter Goodman, Mickey Moniak and Ryan McMahon. Freeman, sticking out like a sore thumb, with a 0.339 batting average. Whereas, in the Braves' dugout, we see some sparkle in Ronald Acuna Jr., posting a maddening 0.387 batting average, and Matt Olson. Quite the luminaries, if I may say so.
Our history buffs will remember that the previous matches between the two teams were dominated by the Braves, not exactly something that folks in the Rockies would care to remember, but hey, who's counting, right? In the recent Rocky rendezvous with the Braves, the latter emerged victorious, even making the Rockies eat their own dust. Twice.
Looking at the regular season records, it appears Braves sat on a rather uneasy 31-38, while the Rockies looked more like they ran off a cliff, with their heads on fire, recording a woeful 13-57. However, we can hope they kept their emergency contacts updated.
To sum it up, let's just say it's like watching a one-legged duck. Predictable, yet amusing. So, without further ado, allow me to present my prediction:
