Our matchup today features the St. Louis Cardinals and the Milwaukee Brewers, and let’s face it, this isn't exactly Clash of the Titans.
Starting with the Cardinals, they're sending their young gun Andre Pallante to the mound. With a less-than-exhilarating 4.89 ERA and 1.42 WHIP, he could do with a few extra prayers from the Cardinals flock. Leading the Cardinals batting line up are Alec Burleson, Ivan Herrera, and perennial power hitter Nolan Arenado, whose .214 average will leave kids around the world exclaiming; “Mommy, I want to grow up and be exactly nothing like him.”
Turning our attention to the Brewers, the mound will be staffed by Jose Quintana. He boasts a significantly better ERA of 2.70 this season, making him the Brewers' own version of Oprah – plenty of strikeouts for everyone! Throwing the swings for Milwaukee are Sal Frelick, Christian Yelich, and Rhys Hoskins. The performance of their offence is much like my wife's cooking – familiar, comforting, and from time to time, pleasantly surprising.
In terms of regular season records, both teams have been doing their well-rehearsed dance around mediocrity, with the Cardinals at 36-34 and the Brewers marginally better at 38-33. The Brewers also hold a little edge from the past head-to-head matchups, nursing a slight grudge back from April, which they won't mind at all.
The old sports adage "it's tough to beat a team three times in a row" may be on the minds of bettors considering the Brewers have won the last two meetings. However, home advantage and more confidence coming from recent wins might just give Milwaukee the needed spring in their step.
