Despite the moniker "Twins," there's really no duplicate team at par with the capabilities of this Minnesota side currently. Their strong-uppercut in the form of starting pitcher Joe Ryan, with his 2.57 ERA and 0.83 WHIP, sure knows how to keep the hits and runs in check. A major shout-out also to our helmet-headed warriors Harrison Bader and Byron Buxton, who've been pumping out RBIs like a PEZ dispenser this season.
The Athletics on the opposing side, unfortunately for those putting faith in them, are akin to a mini-golf windmill on the course right now. Sure, they have the likes of Jacob Wilson swatting pitches to all corners of the park, and Luis Severino holds a respectable enough ERA to snag a few strikeouts... but there's just a certain je ne sais quoi missing from the full ensemble performance. One does hope Oakland Coliseum's pitcher-friendly aura would provide some tailwind, but that's like hoping for a free soda in a casino.
Minnesota Twins and Athletics' history has had more throws and swings than a late-night salsa class, but recently the Twins have had a tad more groove in their step, leading in most encounters. Look beyond the shortstop scope and the Twins' overall regular season record is superior. A lot more W's next to their name indeed.
In terms of current form - well, let's just say if baseball was a sitcom, the Athletics have been on a bit of a rerun streak. And not the crowd-pleaser Friends-kind but more of the cancelled-after-two-episodes kind. The Twins, despite a blip here and there, are gently rolling downhill in the nicest way possible.
So, without further ado and any more of my witticisms, I hereby release my prediction:
