So, the Texas Rangers are paying the Boston Red Sox a visit at the batter-friendly Fenway Park. We've got two quite interesting starting pitchers going head-to-head today. Tyler Mahle for the Rangers has been sublime this season with a 1.21 ERA and a WHIP of 0.99. Not a fan of statistics? Well, just know that he’s pitching impressively. On the other hand, Red Sox's own Tanner Houck is sporting a rather bloated 6.59 ERA and a WHIP of 1.52. Now, I'm not saying Houck has been a disaster this season, but... no, wait, that's exactly what I'm saying.
Let's talk about the big guns for a moment. The Rangers' offensive prowess has been quite potent, particularly Josh Smith, Corey Seager, and Wyatt Langford who’ve been quite impressive. Smith has a .338 average, Seager's been swatting the ball left and right with 4 dingers and a batting average of .318, and Langford seems to know his way around the bases well sporting a .317 average. The Red Sox, too, have a notable lineup with Bregman, Gonzalez, and Devers causing problems for their opposers. Devers could do with some improvement with that .274 average, but he's still making pitchers sweat.
Now, the past meetings, which usually are good indicators for future matchups, have been leaning towards the Rangers. But the regular season tally shows you've got two teams neck and neck each having 18 losses.
In recent times, the Rangers are coming into this one just after trouncing the Red Sox 6-0, while the Red Sox seemed to struggle in their last five games, so it's not all sunshine and rainbows in Boston.
Taking all this into account, considering our star pitchers, some red-hot batters and throwing in the nostalgia of past victories, I'd say Texas Rangers have a slight edge.
