Ah, just smells like it's time for a gritty southern face off between our Cincinnati Reds and Atlanta Braves, doesn't it? We're here at the good ol' Truist Park in Atlanta, a pretty standard playing field for both bats and mounds, so no gimmicks there folks.
Let's talk pitchers for a moment, shall we? Cincinnati has up-and-coming fireballer Hunter Greene on the mound, flashing a 2.56 ERA and 0.83 WHIP, not to mention the man's got an average of nearly 12 Ks per 9. Pretty strong for seven times up, wouldn't you say?
And, for Atlanta, we have its answer with Grant Holmes. A bit higher on the ERA with 4.42 and 1.26 WHIP plus an average of about 10 Ks per 9 in his seven appearances. I'm not saying I'd turn down peach cobbler, but it does seem like he could use a little extra juice on those strikeouts.
Now, let's pay homage to our star players. Reds are packing some heat with Santiago Espinal and Jose Trevino both boasting impressive averages and their RBI counts are not to be sneezed at. Noelvi Marte and Elly De La Cruz are also showing strength with significant RBIs, homers, and stolen bases, rounding off a strong offensive force for the Reds.
Meanwhile, Atlanta isn't exactly swinging twigs with Drake Baldwin and Austin Riley laying down strong averages and RBI counts. Riley, especially, is swinging a heavy bat with those home runs. Sean Murphy and Michael Harris II are finding their way around the diamond, with Murphy's low average compensated by significant homers and Harris showing his speed with those stolen bases.
Now in the past, heck, the Braves have had a bit of an upper hand in recent games, but I've always said history is where you go to pick cherries for your Sunday pie, not where you go to figure out tomorrow's game. It's anyone's ballgame in regular season records with Reds and Braves being almost even.
If we're talking recent games, it seems to be a bit of a slippery rope. Reds are on downward with a couple of losses recently while the Braves have a mixed bag, but hey, we’ve all had our weeks, right?
After weighing all the facts, figures and what kind of coffee I just drained, the Reds, with their strong pitcher right now and the heat their players are packing in offense, have got the edge in this one.
