Look at this matchup, folks. We have the Baltimore Orioles, led by the hard-hitting Ryan O'Hearn whose been putting up crazy numbers with a .303 batting average, 14 RBIs and 7 home runs, taking a swing at the Minnesota Twins over at Target Field. Now, don't let the park factor throw you. Although the stadium slightly favors pitchers, it's not an extreme cramp on our hitters.
The Orioles are throwing out Charlie Morton, whose seasonal stats leave a bit to be desired. With a 10.19 ERA and 2.3 WHIP, he's not exactly throwing out nights of shutout baseball. The Twins, on the other hand, have Simeon Woods Richardson taking the mound. With a more digestible 4.24 ERA and 1.52 WHIP, Richardson's got a little more wind under his wings than Morton.
Flashing some leather for the Twins, we've got a real who's who. Jonah Bride and his .296 batting average along with Ryan Jeffers and his 14 RBIs have been creating some buzz. But we can't forget about Byron Buxton, who's swatted 7 homers and nabbed 5 bases, giving the Twins some real momentum.
Now folks, the wise ones say that history repeats itself. Looking back, it sure looks like the Twins have a hold on the Orioles in recent matchups. I mean, just remember that Orioles took a thrashing in a 1 to 9 loss to the Twins last May. As far as regular season records go, the Twins hold a slight edge with 16-20 against the Orioles' shaky 13-21.
Looking at recent results, the Orioles have had a rocky road with losses to Kansas City and the Twins. But don't be fooled, they managed a solid win against New York, showing they aren't out of the fight yet. The Twins, however, have been swinging back with wins against Baltimore and Boston.
So, after considering all these factors- the venue, starting pitchers, top players, past matchups, season records, and recent results, here's my prediction.
