Okay, so we have the San Diego Padres facing off against the New York Yankees at the Yankee Stadium.
From the mound, we're seeing Dylan Cease for the Padres with a lousy this season's ERA of 5.82. Seriously, I've seen better pitching at a middle school softball game. Then we have the Yankees' Max Fried with an ERA of 1.26. Any lower, and the guy'll start getting negative earned runs, I tell you.
Let's look at some of these players, beginning with Luis Arraez from the Padres. His average is pretty impressive, gotta give him that. We also have Manny Machado, who is always a threat with his RBIs. Meanwhile, over at the Yankees, Aaron Judge and Paul Goldschmidt give witnesses proper testimonies on batting, especially Judge. Kid's batting average is higher than my blood pressure.
Historically speaking, these teams had some pretty neck-n-neck matches with the Yankees winning the earlier May 2024 match 8-0 and then the Padres bouncing back with a 5-2 victory.
Looking at their recent performance, the Padres has been on a hot streak with a great regular season record, significantly superior to the Yankees. The Yankees though, they're not having the best time lately — let me tell you, if they were a stock, I'd short them.
So we have two teams with pretty different track records this season. Considering everything, including the pitcher's stats, player’s performances, and the venue, I think it's a fairly straightforward call.
