If we're playing a game of Top Trumps here, folks (oh, wait, we're not supposed to start that way...), Karen Khachanov is definitely the card you want from this deck. He's a polished seed 17 player, and has recent result patterns that remind me of an amusement rollercoaster - up, down, and flying all over the place. Our lad, Khachanov, evidently had a few close shaves against Mochizuki and Auger-Aliassime, not to mention the sting in the tail from Bublik, but he pulled out some lovey-dovey straight sets against McDonald and Etcheverry.
On the other hand, Nuno Borges, the unranked underdog, has shown some glimmers of impressive performances when he kicked Harris and Cerundolo to the curb in his recent games. But, mind you, he still got his feathers ruffled by Brooksby and Bautista Agut, which could be the indicators of his struggle against more experienced opponents.
When it comes down to it, this is how I see things playing out (no, I'm not psychic). Khachanov's erratic recent results don't exactly inspire confidence, but conveniently for him, Borges has not quite managed to convince us he's ready to slay the dragons just yet. So, after careful deliberation, dusting off my magic 8-ball, and aligning myself with the tennis gods, here it is:
Albert's Prediction: Khachanov in 4 sets
