South Carolina Gamecocks by 20
Ah, the sweet anticipation of a NCAA Women's basketball matchup where it seems like we're all but printing the result in history books before the opening whistle! We're looking at the South Carolina Gamecocks, a powerhouse, strutting their plumage at an AP ranking of #6, against the...well, let's just say the less menacing Vanderbilt Commodores.
Now let's not be too hasty and throw the Commodores overboard just yet. They've got a couple of players who've really been turning the cogs on the scoring machine. Mikayla Blakes, pretty sure her middle name is 'buckets', she's been dropping an impressive 28.1 points per game over the past month. And let's not forget Khamil Pierre, who’s been grabbing 8.1 rebounds per game and showing they've got some serious hustle to their game.
Returning serve, South Carolina's got some serious talent themselves. Joyce Edwards, the rock of their team, has been netting an average of 15.7 points per game in the past month. And Chloe Kitts, who's been a rebounding machine with 7.9 rebounds per game. The Gamecocks have the depth on their side, with every player contributing in their own way.
Now, taking a leisurely stroll down memory lane, in their last couple of bruising encounters, the Gamecocks showed the Commodores who rules the roost, with scores of 91-74 and a dominant 96-48, both in favor of South Carolina. It might be a good idea not to bet the farm, or your precious chickens, on Vanderbilt reversing that trend anytime soon.
And if we're talking records, The Gamecocks are sitting pretty at 24-3, while the Commodores are at a respectable, but not quite as impressive, 19-8. If we're being honest here, and as much as I hate to break it to the Commodore fans, a South Carolina win, looking purely at history and the quality of the players, seems almost as inevitable as a teenager's eye-roll.
But then again, as they say in sports, you never know until the final buzzer. So, here it comes, my prediction is:
