My Prediction
St. Louis Cardinals by 3Cardinals and White Sox face off today in the city of Chicago, at the ever so charming Guaranteed Rate Field, known to favor the batters a bit. On the mound for the Cardinals, we've got Erick Fedde boasting a respectable ERA of 3.71, against Sean Burke for the Sox with a less than impressive 4.84 ERA this season - richer flavors on one side of this pitcher's soup, no doubt about that.
Let's talk firepower now, shall we? For the Cardinals, Alec Burleson and Brendan Donovan are having a good run with averages above .330, but they might still be catching the breath Nolan Arenado left behind after his game with 18 RBIs and 4 homers. The White Sox, on the other hand, don't exactly have a Who's Who list. Lenyn Sosa and Edgar Quero's performances have held some water, but apart from Miguel Vargas's 5 homers, the Sox seem to be wearing thin.
And then there’s past form. Looking at prior matchups, the Cardinals seem to have had the upper hand over the White Sox, displaying a more consistent win record. Now, I don't know about you, but if the past were any indication, those cards might just have the upper hand here.
According to the regular season records, St. Louis Cardinals sit at a fairly okay-ish 38-35 while the White Sox are slogging on down on the south side of the 50 game mark at 23-50. Oh, how much they must be missing the days of their 2005 glory!
Looking at recent results, the Cardinals had a crushing 12-2 win over the White Sox, and even though their winning consistency wasn't, well, consistent - they've got a tad more to show than the Sox who seem to be on a losing streak since the last Ice Age.
Adding all this up, it seems the St. Louis Cardinals have the deck more in their favor today. When you’re in a jam, it’s wise to bet on the guy with the loaded deck, isn’t it?
