My Prediction
Detroit Tigers by 3This little shindig between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Detroit Tigers should be quite a show, and not just for the popcorn vendors I might add. Comerica Park, that chilly charmer in Detroit, is ready to play its usual subtle role, fanning the flames for the pitcher's duel we're about to witness.
Now, who's starting on the mound for the respective squads? Our friend Andrew Heaney is pulling duty for the Pirates. Happy as he may be with his respectable 3.40 ERA, he might need to induce a few more swings and misses to keep the Tigers at bay. Tarik Skubal gets the nod for the home team, and with a 2.03 ERA and a WHIP barely over 0.80, he'll be looking to add a few more strikeouts to his already impressive list.
Switching the focus to some guys who actually get to carry bats, the Pirates will be relying heavily on the likes of Adam Frazier, Isiah Kiner-Falefa, and Bryan Reynolds. With a trunk full of doubles and a few dingers between them, they'll be hoping to make some noise - and not just the kind that wakes up the kids in the stands. Detroit has firepower of its own with Wenceel Perez and Riley Greene leading the charge. Can I hear some love for the .300 club?
Delving into the past, the Pirates and Tigers have been practically playing ping-pong when it comes to the win column. Flip a coin if you like unpredictability, but note that the Tigers have had the last laugh more frequently.
Adding in the little tidbit that Detroit's regular-season game is smoking hot compared to the Pirates', and the recent stumble Pittsburgh took on their last visit here, let's just say it wouldn't surprise me if a few Pittsburgh fans suddenly develop an interest in bird watching.
