When it comes to analyzing who's stepping on the mound, you'd be hard-pressed not to notice a difference. Our Diamondbacks' hopeful, Eduardo Rodriguez, threw up some numbers that'd get him benched in a little league game: a horrendous 6.85 ERA and a 1.65 WHIP. I've seen toddlers handle cookies and milk more efficiently. Toronto's Eric Lauer, on the other hand, sports a debt collector-like 2.51 ERA and 0.98 WHIP. Surely some work cut out for the Arizona bats.
And those bats, I tell ya. They're like some random mix of candies you picked up from a local store; there's some essences of sugar we like. Ketel Marte and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. both hold stellar .311 averages – impressive for sure, but like your grandma's perfume, sometimes it’s just not enough. On the other end of the playground, Alejandro Kirk, Ernie Clement, and Addison Barger have splashed some fancy colors on the canvas for the Blue Jays.
In terms of past meetups, it's been about as mixed as a bag of jelly beans, sweetheart. You've got wins and losses on both sides, kinda like a bad divorce. The Diamondbacks are currently sitting at .500 with a 36-36 record, while the Blue Jays are showing a bit more grit on their sandbox with a 39-33 tally.
If we're talking about recent performances, well, both teams have had their ups and downs like a rickety old rollercoaster, but the Blue Jays appear just a tad steadier. Not sturdy, mind you, just steadier, like furniture with a folded menu underneath one leg.
Now, without even a whisper of that park or payout flavor, and showing some serious disregard for other important business, I'm here to seal the envelope.
