Alright, grab your popcorn and a cold one folks, because the Arizona Diamondbacks are all set to square off against the Toronto Blue Jays at the Rogers Centre. The Diamondbacks will be sending Brandon Pfaadt to the mound. His season has been...shall we say, less than inspiring. A 5.50 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP certainly doesn't put much wind in the sails.
The Blue Jays, on the other hand, counter with Chris Bassitt. His season stats have been more stable, his 3.81 ERA and 1.35 WHIP are nothing write home about, but they're enough to turn heads compared to Pfaadt.
Let's talk about Diamondback players, Gabriel Moreno and Eugenio Suarez. Moreno is swinging a hot bat with a 0.323 average while Suarez has been cranking dingers out the park with 8 home runs!
The Blue Jays aren't lacking in firepower either. Alejandro Kirk's batting .365, probably making pitchers second guess every pitch they throw at him. And if you're thinking of stealing on Ernie Clement with his .320 batting average, you might want to rethink that strategy.
Now, these teams have danced this dance before. The Blue Jays seem to have a slight edge over the D-backs in past games and their regular season records aren't that far apart either - Blue Jays sitting at 38-33 while the Diamondbacks are at 36-35.
Recent performances suggest the Diamondbacks are holding their own despite some hiccups. The Blue Jays' recent track record, however, is more of a roller coaster comparison.
All things considered, given the home field advantage for the Blue Jays, the relative strength of their starting pitcher and, shall we dare say it, a smidgen of historical dominance, I predict the Blue Jays are going to pluck some feathers off Arizona.
