Look at what we've got here folks, the Boston Red Sox venturing all the way up to Seattle to face the Mariners. Should be as fun as a raccoon in a trash can.
Starting off with our headliners on the mound, we've got Boston trotting out Garrett Crochet. Now, Crochet's been winding up some fancy numbers this season. A 2.28 ERA and a WHIP of 1.05 with 11.1 K/9, this fella's been knifing through batters like they're warm cheese. On the other side, we've got Luis Castillo, pretty decent himself with a 3.30 ERA and a WHIP of 1.28. Not the king of Ks like Crochet, but he's been consistent and dependable. You can't ask for more than that, can you?
On to the power players, I tell you what folks – the Red Sox pack a mean punch. Romy Gonzalez, Abraham Toro, Rafael Devers, and Trevor Story are certainly not a band of brothers you'd want to toss a ball at casually. They can really tear into a bad pitch like nobody's business. Gonzalez and Toro, with averages above .340 make them tough outs. Now, don't let Devers's .250 average fool you, power is his game, with 7 home runs to add to his 24 RBIs.
Seattle's lineup can't be overlooked, though. Top dogs like Miles Mastrobuoni, Donovan Solano, Cal Raleigh, and Julio Rodriguez are no slouches. Rodriguez, at .292, doesn't just stand in the box looking pretty, the kid can really get the wheels going once he takes off, notching up 7 stolen bases. Raleigh too, adds some power with 12 homers to his name.
Now when we look back at the history, the tally of past matchups are about as even as a seesaw with two walruses on either side. Mixed performance by both teams with Mariners trumping the Red Sox recently.
Let's talk regular season records; Red Sox have a 38-37 win-loss record, and Seattle is close at their heels with a 37-35 record.
Considering recent results, seems like the Mariners are in a roll. I mean, look at the thrillers they've had. Winning for fun, aren't they?
So here it is, the moment you've all been waiting for, my prediction for the outcome of this showdown.
