Alright, gather around, gather around, we have some quality baseball on our hands today with the Houston Astros taking on the Athletics at the, oh so pitcher-friendly, Oakland Coliseum.
Let me tell you something about the Astros. They're sending Jason Alexander to the mound, and let's just say he's been, uh... "generous" with the ERA this season. Don't get me wrong, the man still strikes out a fair amount. They're hoping his performance doesn't mirror a sitcom character of the same name (no, not that character).
On the other hand, we have the A's trusting in JP Sears. He's got himself a much more respectable ERA, and a WHIP that won't cause fans to pass out from shock. Now, isn't that lovely?
Looking at the top swingmen for these outfits, Astros have Jeremy Pena and Jose Altuve up their sleeve. Pena's been swiping bases and punishing the ball like there's no tomorrow, while Altuve never fails to impress with his RBIs and homers.
Meanwhile, the Athletics aren't slouching with Jacob Wilson and Brent Rooker in their camp. Wilson's batting average is something that would make any high school coach weep with joy, and Rooker's got power to back it all up.
But hey, the Astros are still leading in terms of regular season record. They're clearly more consistent, and it shows in past matchups too, though the last peanut they crunched was, ironically, by the Athletics.
This is baseball folks, it's streaky. And speaking of streaks, both teams are coming in hot. The A’s recently enjoyed a winning run while the Astros are just cooling off from their own, losing only in their last face off against the Athletics.
But frankly, given their recent form, it's going to be a closer match than my mother-in-law's pot roast. All said and done, based solely on performance, despite their recent hiccup against the Athletics, I'd say the Astros have the slight edge.
