Certainly, an exciting matchup is on the cards with Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets lynching against each other at the lovely Citi Field. Who doesn't love summertime baseball in Queens? Trust me, you haven’t lived until you've had a hot dog in the shadow of Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Our pitchers for the day have to be caught in the crosshairs. The Phillies' Cristopher Sanchez is one of those players who loves to make the bats swing thin air while the Mets' Griffin Canning is not too shabby either, but needs to work on those walks he's passing out like candy on Halloween.
Coming to the top of the crop, The Bronx Bombers—no, my bad, the Phillies— have Johan Rojas, Bryson Stott, Kyle Schwarber, and Bryce Harper to showcase. Oh, don't get me started with Bryson Stott. He runs more often than a politician in an election year. On the other side, the Mets' Pete Alonso is simply a smasher of the ball; he's ripping through this season like a hot knife through butter, but let's not ignore Luisangel Acuna and Francisco Lindor. They're doing their things modestly, but effectively.
Taking a peek at the previous skirmishes between these two teams, Mets have hung the Phillies out to dry more often than not. More recent results enhance my theory further. The Phillies though are no slouches and won't burn down easily. But hey, the city of brotherly love needs more than love to win this.
The regular season records, however, paint a different picture with a slight upper hand to the Mets' camp. I didn’t get into this job to do math, but it looks to me that the Mets don't drop too many games, do they? The recent series of events underlines the Mets’ superiority leading me to believe I'd rather bet my money on a meteor hitting the Citi Field than the Phillies winning.
But hey, don't take my word for it. Upsets happen. The sun rises in the west - about as often as the Phillies beat the Mets this season.
