Let's take a look at the two sides battling it out today, the Athletics at Colorado Rockies. Now, that Coors Field in Denver has historically been quite the haven for batters, so we should keep our eyes peeled for some action at the plate.
In terms of throwing the ol' horsehide, the Athletics are sending out JP Sears whose ERA is sitting pretty at 2.90 this season, a touch better than his last season of 4.50. So, thumbs up there. Going toe-to-toe with Sears, the Rockies have German Marquez who's boasting an absolutely pristine ERA of 0.00, making it a tantalizing pitching matchup.
Just can't leave out their star batters. The Athletics' lineup includes the likes of Jacob Wilson boasting a 0.379 batting average and Brent Rooker who's cracked 3 homers. Tyler Soderstrom is yet another force, contributing with a 0.323 batting average. On the Rockies side, we've got names like Kyle Farmer, Nick Martini, and Hunter Goodman, with Farmer making some noise with a 0.333 batting average. Mickey Moniak, however, can't be overlooked with his 0.273 batting average.
Now, if we rewind a bit to past matchups, the Athletics comfortably won the recent one and with a better body of work behind them, as compared to the Rockies' regular season record. But, as we all know, history doesn’t swing a bat or throw a pitch, does it now?
The Athletics didn't have the most convincing of results recently, but they did pull a win against Colorado. The Rockies, well, have been coming up short in the past few games.
So, to cut the long story short, a straightforward prediction would be a challenge considering the mix of strengths and shortcomings on both sides, but here it is.
Albert’s Prediction: Athletics by 2
