Well, strap in my dear spectators to witness the showdown of the Tampa Bay Rays and Texas Rangers. We're in the heart of Texas, at Globe Life Field in Arlington, a slight nod to our pitchers.
Stepping up on the mound for the Rays is Zack Littell. Littell is not a newbie, with a commendable ERA of 1.50 this season. Last season saw him finish with a 3.64 ERA, not exactly shinier than a penny, but we’ve seen pitchers do worse.
On the other end, the Lone Star State is betting on Tyler Mahle, who hasn't exactly proven his mettle yet. With an unpalatable ERA of 7.50, Texas seems to be playing a high risk game.
The Rays' batting lineup is looking solid with Jake Mangum, Jonny Deluca, and Brandon Lowe. Mangum has been hot from the plate with an average of 0.667, while Deluca and Lowe have been consistently putting runs on the board.
The Texas offense, on the other hand, isn't as torrid. Kevin Pillar and Jonah Heim are maintaining decent averages, but with Adolis Garcia shouldering the load at a meek .227 batting clip, they better hope their defense can match up.
Glancing at past encounters, Texas seems to have the upper hand in the head-to-head comparison, flexing their biceps in recent bouts.
Considering the overall season statistics thus far, the Rangers have a narrowly superior win-loss record. However, the recent win-drought, courtesy of the Rays, paints a picture skewed in favor of the Rangers.
So, while Texas is favored for this matchup, my money is on Tampa Bay, especially with Littell on the mound and their robust batting lineup. That Littell advantage just might tip the balance.
