Let's set the stage for a classic East vs West showdown: the Arizona Diamondbacks squaring off against the New York Yankees. And boy, what a setting we have! Lucky us, we get to enjoy the reverberating echoes of countless home-runs past, bouncing off the storied walls of the Yankee Stadium.
On the mound for the boys from the desert, we have Merrill Kelly. Merrill's proved his worth this season with an impressive 1.76 ERA and a highly respectable 1.37 WHIP. Granted he's only got one appearance to his name thus far, but hey, it's been a fantastic one. Now, over in pinstripes, we have Carlos Carrasco. I mustn't sugarcoat this, Carlos' nostrils are probably flaring at his own 13.50 ERA. Sure, he's racked up 9 strikeouts-per-nine-innings this season, but his current ERA could scare off a seasoned fan.
Nobody can deny the Diamondbacks' mighty duo, Ryne Nelson and Alek Thomas; they've got those stats that make sabermetricians dance the polka. Nelson, hitting for show and pay with a 1.000 batting average while Thomas walks tall with a .556 average and 3 RBIs. Of course, no one could possibly forget Eugenio Suarez’s brute strength with 5 home runs under his belt already.
The Yanks, on the other hand, are making do with the likes of Oswald Peraza and a fine gent by the name of Benjamin Rice. Peraza’s been sending it sailing with a .500 average and Rice standing tall with 2 dingers to boot. One may not forget the towering presence of Aaron Judge contributing with 11 RBIs and 4 long balls.
As for the rivalry between the Diamondbacks and Yankees, they've had a real knockdown, drag-out history. Yankees dropped the last two games, with tightly contested scores, to Diamondbacks which may leave them with old wounds itching to be avenged.
Yankees and their Bronx charm have a 3-1 regular season record, hot on the heels of the Diamondbacks sporting a solid 3-2. Given recent results and keeping in mind some unspecific but extremely crucial data, let's remember that both teams have been consistently inconsistent. I mean, the Yankees hit double digits against Milwaukee in the scorcher on Mar 29, but have lately given up some ground to our Diamondback friends.
Alright, time to put it all together. I'm not Nostradamus, but convincing as this data is, my money's going with the team that gets paid more to do... well comparatively less. And trust me, I have a sixth sense for these things.
