Fonseca in 3 sets. You didn't hear it from me...but you actually did.Oh, what a wonderful day it isn't to stay indoors and ruminate on this thrilling matchup between Fonseca and Paul. Seriously, who needs sunshine and picnics when you can analyze volatile tennis matches?
Tommy 'I need a nap' Paul, the 11th seed, slips and slides with a tad unpredictable performance lately. One day, he’s smashing it into oblivion, while the next he’s gracefully bobbing like a rowboat in a hurricane. He was put to sleep by Brooksby J., woke up to knock out Smith C. and Garín C., only to hit the snooze button against Cerundolo F. But to his credit, he rebounded to send Bublik A. on a vacation.
On the flip side, we've got Joao 'who needs a seed' Fonseca. Unseeded, uncertain, but undeniably unpredictable. Did a little ballet dance with Moeller E., took a quick tap dancing lesson from de Minaur A., and then decided to cut a salsa with Humbert U. and Tien L. Just when the party was getting started, Draper J., lured him into a waltz and dragged him off his twinkle toes.
Keeping in mind the sensitivity of my delicate crystal ball, I'd suggest placing your bets on Fonseca. Why, you ask? Well, superstition and sheer love for underdogs, of course. No, but seriously, despite his recent mixed track record and lack of seeds, his payout has been favored. So, whoever said "Float like unseeded Fonseca, sting like a favored bee" was...me, just now.
