My Prediction
Nakashima in 3 setsIf you're looking for some exciting tennis action, today's matchup at the Mutua Madrid Open is one you shouldn't miss. We've got young gun Brandon Nakashima, the 31st seed, up against the unseeded Sebastian Ofner. Now, ranking isn't everything, but let's be honest, it's not nothing either.
Underdog Ofner's recent record is a bit of a mixed bag. Sure, he took down Gaston in straight sets, but he's gone down to Cerundolo, Medvedev and Neumayer - losing more matches than he's won. He's got fighting spirit, you've got to love him for that, but it's the victories column that counts in this game.
On the other hand, Nakashima hasn't exactly been setting the courts alight either. His recent past has been a bit of hiccup with defeats to Martinez, Bautista Agut, and Tiafoe. But let's not forget he hits back, with strong wins over Eubanks and McDonald. And at the end of the day, you don't get seeded 31 for nothing.
From my vantage point, this is one of those delightful matches where you just can't predict what's going to happen – a real nail-biter. In such cases, I tend to side with the bookmakers, who I guess are maybe smarter than me, maybe not, but they seem to have Nakashima as the favorite for this one.
Albert's Prediction: Nakashima in 3 sets
