Cerundolo in straight sets.
Let’s take a look at the matchup, we've got Francisco Cerundolo versus Harold Mayot duking it out in the bloody sand pit we call the Mutua Madrid Open Round of 64. Let's start with Mayot, fresh off the bench, unseeded and hungry. His recent performances have been a mixed bag with a surprising win over Moutet, Boyer, and Shevchenko but a set loss to Herbert. Not the most consistent, but let's give the guy some credit.
On the other hand, we have Francisco Cerundolo, sitting pretty at the 20th seed. He lost to Shelton recently, a bit of an upset, but showed he could be a bulldozer on court with wins against Goffin, Shevchenko and Struff. Sure, he has a few bruises from a loss against Alcaraz, but who doesn’t stumble here and there?
Given that, and please remember I'm only slightly obnoxious with a dry sense of humor, not a psychic who can see the future, I'd lean more towards Cerundolo for this one. The man's got observational skills on the court that would make Sherlock Holmes envious. Also, it seems that whenever Mayot is confronted with a serious adversary, he tends to fold like a cheap suit.
Albert’s Prediction: Cerundolo in straight sets.
