The matchup we've got today is one straight out of a Western film. It's the Seattle Mariners locking horns with the Texas Rangers under the Texan sun at Arlington's Globe Life Field. Firstly, you can't address this showdown without doffing your cap to the Mariners' starting more-than-capable man: Luis Castillo. His fairly stellar season has culminated in a 3.70 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, and 7.5 strikeouts-per-nine-innings, snatching a whooping 16 appearances under his belt this season. A potential wrangler-in-chief, if you will.
Now, let's look at the Rangers' pride, Jack Leiter. A little rough around the edges with a 4.66 ERA and 1.35 WHIP, Mr. Leiter brings a slightly low 7.2 strikeouts-per-nine-innings from his 13 appearances this season. Suffice to say, he needs a bit of that classic Lone Star luck.
Moving onto the big guns of Mariners, we have Donovan Solano swinging a 0.375 batting average, along with 14 RBIs and 3 home runs. The dynamic duo of Miles Mastrobuoni and Cal Raleigh ain't far behind either. For the home team, Marcus Semien emerges as the man to watch, thanks to his 0.333 batting average, 18 RBIs and 4 home runs.
When it comes to prior skirmishes, these teams stand almost shoulder to shoulder. It’s been an interesting back and forth. A little bit of a roller-coaster, but hey that's baseball for you.
On the leaderboard, the Mariners are treading water with a 42-39 record, just slightly outpacing the Rangers' 40-42. Lately, just like a teenager's moods, the Mariners seem to swing between wins and losses. The Rangers, meanwhile, have also staggered a bit like a cowboy after a few too many.
With all these numbers and history thrown around, it would seem the Mariners seem to have the upper hand, or glove, in this case. So, here is my prediction.
