Chicago Cubs by 2Looking at the matchup between the Chicago Cubs and the Pittsburgh Pirates, I’m seeing quite a bit of force on both sides. The Cubs are sitting comfortably with an 18-13 run this season while the Pirates look a bit Shipwrecked at 12-19.
Sidling up on the mound for the Cubs is Colin Rea. Rea is looking solid with a 1.03 ERA in 6 appearances. Paul Skenes, on the other hand, is the Pirates’ ace wielding an impressive 2.42 ERA and a hip 0.81 WHIP. Safe to say, the bats might be on mute.
For the Cubs, it seems like Carson Kelly and Seiya Suzuki are the sturdy oars driving the team’s boat, boasting sizzling stats with Kelly batting 0.386, Suzuki at 0.325, both tacking upwards of 20 RBIs.
Meanwhile, the Pirates are riding high with Andrew McCutchen and Oneil Cruz at the helm. Although the stats aren’t quite howling, they might bring some surprising thunder. Remember, we can't always judge a pirate by their booty, right?
Oh, and how can we forget the temperamental mistress that is the PNC Park. The pitching looks a lot greener while the batting takes a backseat. It’s a mystery how that home advantage is going to sway.
The past matchups have been a real seesaw ride with the Pirates holding a slight edge in recent meetings. Rea versus Skenes, Kelly against McCutchen...it's going to be one monumental tussle, folks.
Weighing up all the factors, I think the Pirates may have a slight skid in their stride. Let's just say, I see a win on the horizon, but not by a landslide.
