Ah! Here we are. The Washington Nationals, strutting into Citizens Bank Park, taking on the Philadelphia Phillies. The weather's nice and the bats are sure to be singing today, it's according to the environment at least.
Starting with Washington's pitcher today, we got MacKenzie Gore. Solid man, he's pitched a snug 3.34 ERA this season, with a 1.14 WHIP to boot. Not to forget his impressive 13.6 K/9 register over six appearances. However, competition's stiff tonight, as they're facing Zack Wheeler who’s revving in with a 3.64 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, and a 12.1 K/9 in 6 appearances. Gonna be a tough job to say who reigns this mound.
Peeking at the players, we see some talent in the Nationals' lineup. James Wood, the home run slugger, and Nathaniel Lowe, who's not afraid of getting his hands dirty over some RBIs. Call and Tena are showing some solid batting averages too, don't scratch them off the list. But the Phillies have their own heavyweights! Talk about Stott, the man's batting at .304 with 14 RBIs and some impressive steals. Castellanos and Schwarber might not wow you with their averages, but they've got a knack for bringing in the runs.
Let's take a trip down memory lane, shall we? In the head-to-head department, it's been a bit of a roller-coaster. The Phillies took a beating the last time they clashed with the Nationals, but prior to that, they were handing out lessons.
Season records paint a similar picture, with a light tug at the scale in favor of the Phillies. Redskins suffer from a bit of a slump, with the Phillies taking a few more victories to the bank.
In recent form, despite a heavy loss to New York for Washington, they've managed a couple of close wins, offering them a bit of momentum coming into this. On the other hand, the Phillies have been performing like a yo-yo, nabbing wins and losses, often with a leeway of just a few runs.
All these tales spun from stats, I hear you scream, "But Albert, who's taking the win?"
Hold your horses! After a distressingly close examination of the teams, the venue, those pesky past records, and my neighbor's cat's sixth sense (just kidding!), I'll have to put my money on...
