I'd say it's time for a classic showdown as the Athletics strut into Arlington to face off against the Texas Rangers. Expect an entertaining duel of starting pitchers, as the Athletics field Luis Severino, who’s been having a decent season with a 3.53 ERA and 1.07 WHIP so far. And on the other side, we've the Texas' own Nathan Eovaldi, who's been rock solid on the mound with a 2.24 ERA, a miserly 0.75 WHIP, and a shiny 9.4 K/9.
The Athletics are hoping their top dogs like Jacob Wilson and Tyler Soderstrom can compensate for their mediocre performances in their previous encounters with the Rangers. Speaking of impressive performers, Texas isn't lacking firepower either. Josh Smith and Wyatt Langford have been hitting the ball so well, you’d swear they had a third eye. As a not-so-insightful man might say, "the ball will feel the sting of their bats".
Now, power isn't all inside a player's individual at-bats, you know. Digging into the history books, we find the past season was a rather mixed bag between these two sides. But the Rangers did look rather superior sporting an impressive 12-2 victory that is still fresh in the memory of their fans... and hopefully, the Athletics players too.
Looking at regular season records, it surely can’t get closer than this. With Rangers perched at 16-14, and Athletics hovering just behind at 15-15, this one is for the taking for both teams.
Turns out the Rangers have managed to make the Globe Life Field a fortress. The low park factor suggests a slight edge for their pitching staff, and boy, Eovaldi must be grinning ear to ear as he prepares for an inning.
Foreseeing future in sports is like trying to hit a knuckleball. However, the recent trajectories of these teams create a story in favor of the Texas Rangers. Though, the chances of a seismic shift in fortune cannot be discarded so soon, I'd suggest the Rangers will have the extra bit of magic tonight.
