The stage is set at Fenway Park, a hitter's paradise if there ever was one, for a showdown between the Chicago White Sox and the Boston Red Sox. The benches are warmed by a couple of fine figures on the mound, Chicago's Shane Smith and Boston's Garrett Crochet. Neither one of them would be considered pushovers, sporting ERAs of 1.50 and 1.42 respectively, and a knack for flinging those missiles with an impeccable WHIP.
The White Sox roll into the town with Lenyn Sosa setting the pace at .279, trailed by the ever-present Andrew Benintendi and his .278 average. They've got some power behind them with the likes of Benintendi, Brooks Baldwin, and Andrew Vaughn piling up the home runs.
Boston's not to be underestimated either. With the likes of Rob Refsnyder, batting a handsome .350, and Trevor Story with his 14 ribs and five big flies, they've got their bases covered. Then there's this guy named Alex Bregman batting .309 if you ever heard of him.
A quick glance at the past encounters tells me that these two teams like to trade barbs, with Boston having the most recent upper hand.
This season, the Red Sox are sitting near .500, while the White Sox are in a world of pain. Recent outings give you the same picture. Boston's having a pretty solid run, having just trounced Chicago, while the White Sox are kind of just spooning through their alphabet soup.
If you put a gun to my head, and here we are 'cause you folks are insatiable, I'd side with the Red Sox today, call it home advantage, call it Boston has a thing going with Chicago, call it my aunt named her pet dog Boston, whatever tickles your fancy.
Albert’s Prediction: Boston Red Sox by 3
