LoanDepot Park is where the action's happening today, folks, and by "action," I mean two baseball teams trying to show us they still got it. Now, on paper, it seems like the Pittsburgh Pirates are looking good, partially thanks to our main boy Andrew Heaney. He did well last year with a 4.497 ERA and 9.4 K/9 in 31 appearances, so we can expect some decent pitches from this fella.
On the other side of the field, we've got the Miami Marlins, with Max Meyer on the mound, who, uh, struggling a little bit from the last year stats of 5.915 ERA and 7.4 K/9 in just 11 appearances. Maybe he ate a bad seafood sandwich, who knows?
Then there's the batting lineup. We've got some fairly heavy hitters on the Pirates' side – Bryan Reynolds, Joey Bart, and Oneil Cruz come to mind. With a combined 58 home runs last season, these guys are sure to be a challenge for Meyer. On the Marlins' side, Xavier Edwards and Jesus Sanchez stand out with decent batting averages and a combined 47 stolen bases last season. Looks like a duel between power and speed.
Looking back on history, the Pirates and the Marlins have had some pretty neck-to-neck games with Pirates winning two of the last three matches they played in Miami.
But hey, let's not forget about the last season records. Pirates ended up with a net-positive 76-86 while the Marlins are still trying to regain their footing after a disappointing 62-100 season.
Recently, Miami has been a little hot and cold, but pulled off victories over the Pirates, their latest being a narrow win by just a single run. But when it comes to betting, it's no secret that these things are just a little to a lot too unreliable.
So, leaning on the side of the guys with fancy hats, I'm anticipating a Pirates win today. Why? Well let's just say, it's as mysterious as why my mustache refuses to grow evenly.
