Seattle Mariners by 2Let's chat about this baseball bonanza coming straight from T-Mobile Park in Seattle, starring the Detroit Tigers and the Seattle Mariners. Now, the story of the game could be around our starting pitchers here, and I'll tell you, Casey Mize's performance last season for the Tigers, with an ERA of 4.713 and 22 appearances, doesn't exactly scream "hide your bats, folks." On the other side, we have Logan Gilbert who pulled a 3.332 ERA with the Mariners last season and is showing signs of an even better show this year.
Turning our gaze to the standout players, the Tigers have some pretty strong hitters in Manuel Margot and Dillon Dingler, who seem to have a personal contest on who gets the better batting average. Not to be outclassed, the Mariners bring to the pitch the likes of Jorge Polanco, flashing a solid .400 batting average with 4 RBIs and a home run to boot.
Digging up the bones of past clashes between these teams, seems like the Tigers had more roar than bite - they won the most recent meeting, but had lost 2 out of the 3 encounters before that. The regular season records reflect a similar story, with the Tigers trailing at 0-3 while the Mariners are roosting comfortably, albeit slightly, at 2-2.
And if we’re to put some good old recency-bias into play, assessing the last few performances, the Tigers' past games leave much to be desired. The Mariners, on the other hand, are enjoying a slightly better time, shaking off a couple of bad days against the Athletics.
Slamming all these factors onto the scales, I’m seeing the Mariners tipping the balance here folks.
