Philadelphia Phillies by 2Alright, let's dive right into this. We're looking at a faceoff between the Colorado Rockies and the Philadelphia Phillies, quite the juicy matchup, I gotta say. Now we're playing at the Citizens Bank Park here: a dream locale if you're batting, not so glamorous if you're on the mound, but hey, you can't win 'em all.
The Rockies' ace is good ol' German Marquez. His last season was just not his best work, kids. ERA as high as 6.75 and WHIP of 2.25? Those are some hard stats to justify. Only one appearance last season however, so let's hope he got a good night's sleep.
On the other hand, we have Cristopher Sanchez - the Phillies' formidable starter. Last season, he hit more than a decent stride with an ERA of 3.33 and WHIP of 1.26 for the regular season... and let's not forget his playoff stats. Those are high pressure games and he rebelled with a strong 3.6 ERA and 1.2 WHIP.
Top player wise—with Rockies, we have Mickey Moniak. Half the times he steps to the plate, he's hitting it. Nick Martini and Kyle Farmer aren't far behind either. Phillies are led by the big man Kyle Schwarber, who knows how to make the most of his at-bats, along with Edmundo Sosa and Johan Rojas.
If we're talking about the history between these teams, they've traded wins quite a bit, but Philly came out on top the last time they crossed paths. The Rockies are looking to bounce back from a series of tough defeats while the Phillies, well, their recent matchup against Washington was less than ideal.
But let's cut to the chase here. Given all the proverbial cards on the table, I'm with the Phillies on this one. They have the stronger pitcher, plus they're playing in a park where their hitters are going to feel right at home.
